We are especially grateful to the NMF for all their hard work in getting information out to physicians, hospitals and the public. When my 53-year old sister, with no prior heart problems, experienced severe chest pains, the EMT personnel recognizing near-fatal "heart attack" symptoms as that of "Marfan". In October 1998, a 12-hour lifesaving surgery by Dr. Frank at Loyola Medical Hospital restored the paper thin layers found in the aorta ventricle known as "aorta dissection" a result of the Marfan Gene which literally tears connective tissues.

Even more alarming was the fact that we've never heard of Marfan and early diagnosis of Marfan-related symptoms is extremely urgent. Four more of our family members have been tested for Marfan syndrome with acute mitro valve and pnuematic thorax problems.
